Chronic Pain isn’t only about the body . . . your brain, focus, and emotional well-being take a hit, too. When pain diminishes or goes away, then the rest of you can fight and kick back into gear to live your life to the fullest.

Rosemary & Moringa Arthritis Pain Formula
This salve came about when I got my hands on some fresh sprigs of rosemary right after I had infused moringa leaves in organic coconut oil. I had done enough research to know that moringa has SO MANY health benefits to offer the body and knew that rosemary is no slouch either!
I wanted to make an alternative pain & inflammation formula that would complement the original salve I already had and used moringa and rosemary as my base oils. A few other heavy hitting essential oils that help in pain management were added and I had a product that I tested on myself and a few friends who are always on the lookout for when I am trying out new oils.
While it didn’t work as well on tough muscle pain like the original formula, it quickly became clear that it really did a number on those people who experienced arthritis. Two of the early testers had rheumatoid arthritis and a few others had arthritis developing from getting on in years . . .
A few tweaks later and I offered this formula to different people and asked if they would test it out on their own arthritis areas. It was a hit! My “red dot” pain formula was official. (See home page for information on how the color “dots” came about)
Like most of my salves, “less is more”! You don’t need a lot of this salve for it to work. Dab a small amount on the area that hurts and gently rub in circular motions for at least a full minute. Rubbing the area will increase the circulation and draw in the salve even quicker. Wash your hands thoroughly so you don’t accidentally get some in your eyes.
Ingredients in the Rosemary & Moringa Pain Formula
Base: Moringa Infused Oil, Rosemary Infused Oil, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Cinnamon/Clove Infused Oil, and Beeswax
Essential Oils: peppermint, eucalyptus, frankincense, juniper berry, lavender, MORE rosemary, cinnamon, ginger, and birch
Polar Pain Relief Formula
Since the Rosemary & Moringa pain formula targeted the arthritis pain group, I still wanted to create another pain formula for deep muscle pain. This time I wanted a “cool/cold” formula that affects the body differently than the “warm/hot” oils do.
Quite a few tweaks later, I had a salve that I was really happy with and started testing that one out with friends eager to try out another new formula.
Camphor, menthol, eucalyptus and wintergreen were the starters with this salve. “Cool” oils that go deep into the muscles for healing pain relief really help this formula do its work. For an almost icy/hot feel, a few warm oils were added and one “hot” oil, but they were added also for their deep pain relief benefits. While I absolutely adore the original pain formula, the Polar Pain Relief Formula is the one I probably use the most on my feet/ankles/knees/legs when they start hurting! It works wonders on my aching, tired legs when I get home from work after standing the whole day.
Polar Pain Relief Ingredients:
Base: coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, menthol crystals, and beeswax
Essential Oils: camphor, eucalyptus, peppermint, wintergreen, lavender, juniper berry, thyme, cypress, and rosemary
New Healing Anti-Inflammatory Pain Formula – Plantain Leaf & Calendula Salve
Plantain leaf and calendula . . . while these 2 plants are not the most common, they both offer a powerful punch!
Growing up in Maine, I remember seeing broadleaf plantain thriving on the side of our garage and alongside the driveway. Of course, back then, we called them “whippers” because of the tough flexible “stem” that comes up the middle of the plant when it blooms. My brothers and I would chase each other in the summer/fall seasons with these in hand. Man, oh man, that was so long ago. 🙂
Oops, I digress! Plantain leaf . . . one of its nicknames is the “Healing Blade”. This weed is often used to heal damaged/infected skin and promotes new cell growth. It can also help with stings, burns, rashes, minor wounds, and stops/slows blood flow. This plant is also thought to draw out toxins from insect, snake, and animal bites.
Like most of the ingredients in our PLorigin line, plantain leaf has anti-inflammatory properties. In a tea form, it can also promote respiratory, digestive, and liver health. It is a good source of vitamin C, calcium, beta-carotene, potassium, and contains lots of antioxidants. Pretty good for a so-called “weed”, right?
And then there is calendula . . . a pretty flower related to the Marigold, calendula is also an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal. Like the plantain leaf, it is also used to treat minor wounds, cuts, burns, and skin conditions. It can help prevent infections and assist in healing injuries to body tissue.
Calendula, with its powerful antioxidant properties, helps reduce pain, inflammation, and fever along with fighting muscle fatigue. There have also been studies where calendula sprays and extracts are said to have helped heal skin/leg ulcers. While more research is needed, it does seem to indicate that calendula has very powerful properties.
Add in beneficial carrier oils like olive, coconut, and avocado plus some heavy hitting pain and inflammation essential oils . . . and PLorigin has another home run!
THIS SALVE IS WHAT I CONSIDER A “TWO-FOR” SALVE! It’s a 2 in 1 solution formula . . .
This particular formula is a wonderful mix of skin healing AND pain/inflammation oils that really do a number on tired, sore skin while working on the muscles and joints underneath. While it does have a more “grassy” scent (think fresh cut lawn) than the other salves, it is not an offensive smell. The base oils will soak in within 5 minutes for fresh rejuvenated soft skin (not greasy once soaked in) and the tissue underneath will be relaxed because the salve is working on the inflammation.
Like the other salves, this formula doesn’t need much rubbed into the affected area to work. Just ensure that you rub/massage (gentle to medium pressure) in circular motions for a minimum of one minute to achieve the relief you desire.
Plantain Leaf & Calendula Salve Ingredients:
Base Oils: Olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, plantain leaf, calendula flowers, rosemary, cinnamon, ginger, and beeswax
Essential Oils: tea tree, chamomile, echinacea, turmeric, lavender, and evening primrose

Newest Pain Relief Formula – Hard Pain Cayenne & Turmeric Rheumatoid Arthritis Salve
Yes, another pain relief formula! lol I wanted to create something that might help chronic pain sufferers as their pain just doesn’t stop. It’s not an injury that gets better or a crick in the ankle from overuse, it is something that can take over your life as the level of suffering gets worse and worse. And it’s not just the aches and pain, but the inflammation, the body that doesn’t want to move, the burning, the itching, the sores . . . it doesn’t seem to end and can drastically reduce a person’s quality of life.
As I have mentioned before on this site, I do a lot of research before I put pen to paper and start formulating another PLorigin recipe. During the latest rheumatoid arthritis research dive, I kept coming across these 2 ingredients . . . cayenne and turmeric.
Cayenne, like other chili peppers, contains an active ingredient called capsaicin. This ingredient confuses pain transmitters by blocking them. When these pain messages are “blocked”, the body feels less joint and muscle pain. Not only does cayenne reduce pain, but it is also an anti-inflammatory.
Turmeric was added because of its most active component, curcumin. Like cayenne, it is also a powerful anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant. Some studies have shown that curcumin can be helpful with those having osteoarthritis (OA) as it helps control pain and stiffness as well if not better than nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs).
Other main components of this new salve are avocado pits and castor oil, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper seeds.
Yes, you read that correctly! Avocado pits are peeled, finely chopped and infused in castor oil. While they contain dietary fiber and fatty acids, avocados can also help repair UV damage. Like the other ingredients above, they are also anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and contain anti-neurogenerative effects to help keep the brain healthy.
I’ll say this again . . . “less is more”!
